Toxins and your health
Six years ago a 15 year old girl was brought in to our Delaware office, by her mom for chronic pain of unknown origin. As with most young adults and teens, we get results quick when focused on balancing their nervous system and aligning their spine. This case was different. It was beyond complicated when we got deep into the case. The Patient had to drop out of school, was unable to play sports, was not able to learn to drive, or even spend too much time out of the house. Her pain was debilitating but not a single provider could figure out WHY it was happening.
After about two years and hundreds of tests later, it was discovered that the cause of her pain and debilitation in life was due to MOLD growing inside her body! Her house had mold in it and growing up in that house, it started to grow in her.
Creating a healthy environment is the first step to creating positive changes in our life. Mold is a very serious toxin. We know this. If mold is present in our house, we all would take the steps to eliminate it, and would, at all cost, work to keep our children away from it because we know how toxic it is to our health. Yet, we bring in toxins to our household regularly without batting an eye.
With COVID 19 we are all about the cleaners, yet the house hold cleaning industry does not have the regulations we would expect. The average household cleaner is full of toxins that disrupt our endocrine system and can cause dysfunction in our bodies. Mold is a toxin that can affect our health very negatively. Our high intensity cleaners are also full of toxins that can affect our health very negatively. Since this is not a highly regulated industry, we need to do our due diligence.
Household items with high toxins:
1. Scented candles and plug in scents and air freshening room sprays
Most of these release formaldehyde into the air, and pose a risk to air quality of the home. Scented candles and plug ins are releasing toxic chemicals into the air. Some studies are showing that burning scented candles may increase cancer risk. Signs you are reacting may be sneezing, runny nose, and sinus blockage. Using these are polluting the air of your home
· Look for beeswax or soy wax candles
· Burn candles only in a well ventilated area
· Switch to a diffuser with high quality essential oils
· Fill your home will air purifying plants
2. Scrubbing Bubbles
These are effective at killing bacteria, but it contains multiple chemicals that are completely banned in Europe because it has so many negative effects on the human lungs! There are much safer and natural cleaners that can do the job just as well. Switching to vinegar based cleaning solutions are so much safer for you and your family
3. Toilet Bowl Cleaners
These are made to be heavy duty, so it is no wonder they are filled with toxins that harm your health. They can potentially cause burns and can irritate the eyes, nose, and skin. They can even damage your lungs! Many are even fatal if digested at all.
4: Bleach and Ammonia
Both of these are highly toxic. Although needed for specific cleaning needs, avoiding them unless absolutely necessary would be the advice. Exposure to both of these can be damaging to your lungs.
For many cleaning vinegar can be used as a base. It is very effective and has minimal negative health effects.
Other brands to explore include Branch Basics, Seventh Generation, Better Life, and Clean Well.
It is important to create a healthy environment to raise a family and nurture your own body. Toxins can be the blame for many health ailments and are hard to diagnose.
